| JR. B Thunderhawks lose two The
Niagara Thunderhawks Jr. B Lacrosse Club traveled to Owen Sound last
Saturday night and came away with a disappointing 8-2 loss. Still sporting
a line-up of 8 rookies the team started slowly and could not rebound.
Marcus Lagerstrom scored both goals for the Thunderhawks. Dean Janzen
added an assist. On Sunday the team played the top ranked Six Nations
Rebels at Home. With 4 more starters back from University the game was
close. The Thunderhawks scored 2 quick goals to take the early lead.
Bryson Filipetti scored his first goal of the season from Corey Fowler
and Jake McCready assisting. McCready then added one on the power play
from Fowler and Josh Kilgour. Six Nations responded with 2 of their
own to leave the first period tied at 2. The teams exchanged goals back
and forth in the second period with James Rickard scoring 2 and Gaehnew
Printup adding another. Fowler added 2 more assists with Printup, Kilgour,
Brendon Johnston and Don Ferguson adding singles. The see - saw affair
saw the Rebels up 6-5 after 2 periods. Niagara tied the game early in
the third with a goal from Printup. Corey Fowler picked up his 5th assist
of the game. The Rebels pulled ahead for good and the game finished
11-7. Lloyd Chrysler finished the scoring for the Thunderhawks with
an assist from Marcus Lagerstrom. The announced crowd of 265 saw one
of the most entertaining games of the season. Rookie Goaltender Julian
Fauzey made over 50 saves, many of them spectacular. Coach Roger Chrysler
was encouraged with the team play. “We just took one of the top
Jr. B teams in Canada (Six Nations) to the brink – our team is
starting to gel” With Justin Gill; Mathew Friesen and Cory Henry
expected back in the lineup soon, Chrysler feels the team will be able
to compete game in and game out. On Saturday May 2nd and Sunday May
3rd the team will be holding a Lacrosse clinic for the NOTL Minor Lacrosse
players from 9:00am to 10:30am each day. During the Saturday May 2nd
Home game the NOTL Novice Minor travel team will be featured between
the first and second periods.
